Hello there people, haven't a clue what to say so I am going to babble for a bit.
Last weekend my sister had her 21st bithday and she bought a pretty cool hifi system. This annoys me. I have a sony portable 'stereo', which to it credit has given me honerable service whilst I have been at dental school, but it really does sound crap.

So i was sitting there, beer and a fag in hand :drink: , listening to my house mates reasonale hifi, contemplating how the hell I was going to afford a good system.
I then declared "I'm gonna build some speakers!" this of course gave my house mates a great deal of amusement..

A couple of hours on the net and here I am totaly confused  and slowly realising that this whole diy speaker lark is more tecnical than I thought.

If anyone can advise me on how to build a pair (obviously) of speakers for the same price as a cheese burger :2c: that would be great. Alternatively (and more realistically) something pretty cheap, preferably frool standing.

Thanks and have fun
Calum Dunkley

Welcome. Were you frool (sic) standing as you posted?

How much does a cheeseburger cost? Yes, loudspeakers are technical. HOWEVER. You can make the biggest savings by making your own loudspeakers. Designing your own stuff means that you need to learn a bit about physics (don't worry, physics is fun), and it's incredibly satisfying to be able to say, "I made that" when people adimire. Forget it as a chat-up line (it never worked for me).

Presumably, you can be trusted with a drill, and glueing parts isn't a problem, so, what do you need? Do you want to pound the floor and walls until the plaster falls off, or is a spot of chamber music more likely? How loud, how big, how deep?

Hi Calum and welcome🙂

People on the board have built everything from very expensive to pretty cheap, so I'm sure we can sort you out!

If you want to look at really cheap DIY, do a search for "frugalphile"- this should give you some idea of how cheaply you can build things😉

Or there are many kits available as well, give us an idea of size and price, and I'm sure someone can help.
