First rule of DIYAUDIO is be safe.
On high voltage gear I usually add a resistor and LED to smoothing cap to show it is charged up. Its a good trick but dont forget to discharge cap first.
I remember my first valve pre amp.
I powered it up and it was dead.
So turned it off and started poking around and got a huge shock.
My tutor told me to discharge smoothing cap with resistor and croc clip leads.
So next time I did that and still got a shock, I had forgot to turn it off.
Amazingly that was 40 years ago and I am still alive !
