Hi Guys,
Can't help but to share with you this recording, it is amazing.
This is Elvis singing "Fever". I've got it from my friend who said that it is on one of Burmester sampler CDs. However I still can't locate the source.
So, I uploded the file for you to download and listen (I know that I'm not doing right thing, but hey there is no rule without exception).
File is in WMA losless format.
here is the link:

Let me know what you think. Let me know if you identify source too.

I discovered this forum last night, just while searching for information about "AUDIOPHILE RECORDINGS" over the Net.
Great thread, I have already taken note of several titles listed here. On the other hand, I would also like to share with you guys some of the best sounding recordings I have ever heard:
=> HAROLD FARBERMAN - Grooving Classics [XRCD 24-bit] => Classical
=> DADAVA - Sister Drum [XRCD 20-bit K2] => think of chinese/tibetan drums materializing right there in your room
=> HE XUN-TIAN - Paramita [XRCD - K2] => same as the above
=> JAMES NEWTON HOWARD & FRIENDS - S/T [XRCD 24-bit] => Jazz
=> DAVE GRUSIN - Discovered Again Plus [XRCD 24-bit] => Jazz
I will come with others later.

Audiophile Recordings
I'm not sure this qualifies but, for testing your system or otherwise identifying instrument timbre, you may download "Sound Quality Assessment Material recordings (essentially CD tracks) from the European Union Broadcast Union. There is also a Handbook for the EBU SQAM CD.
It is a wonderful resource and a worthwhile addition to your collection.

Just discovered another great sounding CD in my collection:

I have a few albums (vinyl) that I tend to go to... Sinatra's Live at the Sands, Dire Straits Alchemy, Jackson Brown Running On Empty, and Oregon Live, along with a number of Deutsch Gramophone recordings. I would consider all of these both well recorded and well produced.
I'll add this one. Had it lying around my collection for years unlistened and recently spun it again.

Berlioz
I'm a big fan of Berlioz - esp. the Requiem with four tympanists playing chords and the monumental Funeral Symphony. But here is the old cliche, Symphonie Fantastique, Simon Rattle, Berlin, EMI, 2008.
Esp. in the last movement, they hit the side drum softly and it rings at around 25 Hz. In various places at DIYaudio, I've talked about looking at music with MacCRO spectrum analyzer. Here's a screen shot from near the end of the last movement.
Each bar on the horizontal axis is 10 Hz, so we are looking at 0-100 Hz. Some really low stuff there.

1. Willie Deville - Miracle
2. Imani Coppola - Black & White Album
3. Orient Expressions - Divan
The track, Instanbul 01:26am, is a standout. I originally heard it on a sampler from Roksan - Altitude, but it is difficult to find.
