Hello all on this board.
I'm a little bit newbie with DIY Projection but i learn quick.
Sorry about my bad englisch. I will do my very best.
I have read here many posts but it is nearly impossible to
read all so be kind if some aspects are discussed on page
25 before.
So, planning a DIY projector i have found here many times
that a Nview Spectra C would be fine.
Ok, i have bid at Ebay and it's now on the shipping way to
germany.
Actually i have two decision problems.
I need something, what you in USA can buy under TV-3000
or Cheesebox. Shipping is one problem, the NTSC Tuner
fixed for North America another. So i found here a product which differs in many ways from your TV-3000.
It's called Grand Televiewer and here is the link
http://www.grand.com.tw/PRODUCT/TVBOX/pop/POP.HTML
and a few highlights ( want more follow the link )
- Picture On Picture function
base on PC Screen and Small Picture source can select
- DEINTERLACE can provide high quality picture, It can give sharp, stable image output to VGA.
- Compatible for Multi Signal inputs: TV Tuner, VGA ( bypass ), Video, S-Video. 50-to-60HZ frame rate conversion automatic source mode detection (NTSC/PAL(SECAM) for Video, S-Video).
The DEINTERLACE output mode can be changed from 640*480, 800*600 to 1024*768(60Hz&75Hz).
If you look deeper you will see that this device do it
"progessive" and it has a memory frame buffer.
SO my first question is.
Did anyone know if a Nview Spectra C can handle this.
In my opinion every VGA Monitor is progessive but i'm not
sure about LCD's.
Now to the second problem. -> Rear Projection
I also read here the threads but didn't found the infos i needed.
It's pretty clear that most here go the front way.
I will short explain why i want rear.
My room has absolut no empty walls and there is noway
to sit and watch with an OHP allways in front of the view.
Daylight is the next problem. But the room has in the middle
a wide doorway. When i would hang some projection wall
at this position i would have a partion (room in a room) where i can close the shutter/roller seperatly and then it's there
pretty dark. Sitting before the projection wall would be then
ok and the "material room" is dark. (OHP, NView, Computer)
But i have exactly no idea how to do a DIY rear projection wall
because i don't know which translucent materials i can take for such a thing. All DIY screens with "black coth" or such stuff is always for front projection.
The only things i could find are a little bit infos like "frosted glass"
and ready to rumble Screens from Stewart or Dalite for thousands
of dollars. Is there no magic "stuff" -> paper, spray, acryl
which is well known to do such a job.
The Dalite's of this world do it with materials like "PolaCoat".
Think that www.harknesshall.com is the source for this material
but they didn't answer my questions ( I've tried it only in the U.K)
So, now hope that someone can help me a little bit
best regards
Rainer

See the "video to vga converters? " thread where I explain about the VGA converters I've used with my Spectra C.
Basically it does work, but the colours can get a bit washed out. I have found that using a progressive scan DVD player with VGA out gives much better results. These can be bought for less than the cost of the Grand converters!
Sorry, no idea about rear projection screens.
Good luck with your project!
