The speakers are almost butting up against my wall...
Try placing close to the wall. If you've a room that is rectangular, please try placing along the longer wall.
My experience with the 604 (in a 620A cabinet) is that even by moving a couple of inches makes a huge difference in bass.
Just as I feared.... I suppose the only way is to add in a sub?
With the boxes you have? That will take care of the bottom end. It's unlikely to help with the leanness of the 100-200hz region.

I mean with a separate sub cab.

So did I. The sub will help with the bottom end, but it's not going to help if you're experiencing much leanness on voices, or if the lack of bass extends to the lower vocal range.
Nobody can advise you on subwoofers without a better description of the bass problems.
Thanks again kf, you restored my sanity. I went out and found the thickest possible gauge speaker cables, and boom! Problem solved! It's never going to boom as you said but suddenly the speaker has just opened up a lot more and the bass is definitely more punchy.
In my very limited knowledge of hifi, I openly declare that the GPA 604 is the second best value for money speaker system available for tube amplifiers. I think I couldn't get a better sound for the amount that I spent.

Then what is first in your Opinion ?

Lol, this was a saying that a friend taught me in relation to food. Saying something is the best, opens it to debate. And if you can accept something as the best, then.... What else is there to look forward to?
But in all seriousness, I don't have the experience nor the knowledge to claim that anything is the best.
The GPA has fulfilled all my ambitions, it ticked all the boxes i wanted and has actually surpassed some of them. Remember the original premise was to have a set of speakers that could optimize the performance of my kt88. I now find myself looking at 2A3 PPs.....
