Got a big output trafo I want to use.

Thanks KM, but the question was aimed at lawbadman.

Sorry sport, you're original question quoted my post, not lawbadman. I was the one who pointed him to this circuit in the first place. I also answered your previous questions as well... I'm happy to help you out here, but I suggest you read things more thoroughly next time.

Oops

My Bad! Apologies to wakibabi! For some odd reason, all of the sidebar icons appeared identical yesterday until an update requred me to reboot the system. Afterwards, they appeared unique to the id. As a result, I got confused and it all looked the same poster. Again, sorry Devon, I'll take my own advice once I get the other foot of my mouth.

OK KM, since I saw your last post first, I can't even claim you hurt my feelings.

I asked because if I had a singleton OP trafo in this range, I'd be trying to identify a match for it before I launched into a hi-fi design.

Is the transformer vintage or current production? Do you know its reputation? If it is vintage what was the original application? Who manufactured it and what is the ID? How do you know the power rating and primary impedance? What secondary and primary (if any) taps does it have? What is the intended load?

Hi WB,

Did not get much detail on the specifics as to brand, etc. 100 watts is the rating, but that can always be questionable, i.e., at what frequency. Still, there are some good circuits which can provide this... but with the current supply of power tubes, getting 100 watts from a single pair is pushing past reliable operation and/or tube life.. IMHO.

Any details beyond this would have be answered by lawbadman.

Ok,
This project is just for the heck of it.
I obtained the transformer and I wanted to use it so I figured I would build something out of it. This project is really to get my feet wet in tube amp building (although its not my first tube amp). I really dont know if I can get another transformer like this so I will live with mono.

The transformer is vintage, the brand is Massicore from England. It was used for an old sound system with 4 KT88 tubes. The actual amp it came out of is a Denton T300. I cant find any info on the company at all.
The power rating and the impedance is written on the transformer. Its pretty big, about 7 inch cube.

I would still love to build a 100w amp with this trafo though, just for the fun and novelty of it. :smash: 😀
