I let my little BIOS battery die so everything I do is hopelessly lost in time, every program remains "recently installed", etc. It's amazing how this farkles everything.
You still may have some flash memory in your network adapter that keeps telling it's unique ID when asked. 😀
Also, some network cards have no firmware inside, it's downloaded every time you boot up your OS. Also, when you boot your computer some peace of software from BIOS records itself on hard drive then your Windows or Mac OS starts contacting some server to ask if there is some task available for it. It was designed and made for security, in order to track down stolen computers, but as soon as it is irremovable rootkit in most of designed in USA computers computer criminals most probably figured out how to use it for their advantage.
It is not bad when Google remembers what you were searching for. What is bad, when criminals use your computers for attacks on networks, without your knowledge about that. Everything that can be inserted in your computer to enforce law can be used by criminals for opposite purposes. More control means more control, more of anonymous freedom means more of anonymous freedom, so each and every time when you give some your rights to somebody to protect you anonymously you give to somebody else some possibilities to harm you anonymously.
At the end of last year I searched for some particular make and model of a car, but even after I sold it already long time ago I am still getting ads to buy it.I've also noticed diyAudio coming up high in my Google searches. I blame tracking, even tho my browser is pretty good about covering its tracks. (I get very few targeted ads)
Would be fun to test. Find some search term, we all search then have friends who have never visited the forums search and compare the results.
It is called reactive advertising. Google clients loose when they show such ads instead of something people can be really interested in, in case of proactive advertising.

Does this "gerund" have anything to do with Sparkle Farkle whom I knew in "the Midwest" about 40 years ago...
You have to know Rowan and Martin to get the joke...
I will compose the "Baltimore Catechism" of Google when I find my worm-eaten copy.
just for fun...I see today in the "advertise" header at diy page the add from the company making rubber stamps, which I did some search and order on line at work few days back
I am at home right now...
Are there ads at the top of the DIYA page? I use the adblock extension on firefox and never see them 🙂.
I'd use TOR, but its too damn slow 🙁.
Changing browsers doesn't help. Everyone does it, and google has adapted. (I claim this without proof but) I'm reasonably certain (based off experiments I've done) that google has no trouble keeping track of you when you switch browsers and delete cookies.
It doesn't help that Adobe flash stores its cookies in a common location for all browsers, so a flash cookie that was set in firefox will be read when you start up I.E./Opera/Chrome.
The only time I can get google to show me non-personalised results is when I go out and use a public (cybercafe) computer.

...that has different IP address.
Google logs all your internet traffic, and makes personalised search results.
There's a site that bypasses all of this, and allows you to do a clean Google search.
DuckDuckGo
Also, Google indexes websites in real time. The moment someone posts something new, you can find it on Google.

I found diyaudio.com through google, you guys rank really high! I've never done any diy audio, I just suddenly got the urge to build amplifiers and build expensive speakers 😀
I think diyaudio showed up in all my searches regarding amplifier repair and assembly. And yes, google tracks you based on your profile. They log everything you do (emails, searches, everything you visit with google ads on). They do provide you with an option to delete it all if you feel like doing that afaik 🙂

Hey Jack, you seem to be proof of the old Jebbie saying about giving them the boy.
Of course, that reads a little differently these days.
