My tempest in an Adire EBS alingment box went south on me and I need to replace it. FS=18.8 QTS=.38 VAS is 317L. Xmax is 16.4 mm. The tempest is no longer available, so what parameter is most critical for the closest match? Thanks in advance.
You pretty much nailed it with Qts, Vas and Fs, get a driver with close to those values and you'll get a similar sound in your enclosure.
Actually this driver is already a warrenty replacement. The first was DOA and I waited two months to straighten that out, some two years ago. The other (I have two EBS tempests) has been problem free. I'm all set with adire and thier warrenty. The PE Dayton DVC-15 is the closest I could find to Tempest. I belive Eminence makes this Dayton as well as the Tempest. I was hoping for close enough to tempest but better quality if possible.

Seems to fit well, a bit more expensive but a bit better too.

That does look nice but yhe VAS is much less (if im converting liters to cubic feet properly) That means it will become unloaded in the lage EBS enclosure easily? Or is it the other way around?
Yes, the Vas is smaller, you'll get more deep bass, we could model it to check if it's still OK. Your enclosure is stuffed or not? What is the size of it?

Vas is closer, Fs quite close and Qts quite close also.
Maybe the optimum choice.

I belive those are the new adire drivers made in Spain. I think I saw that said somwhere. They have been ariving soon for some months now. My box is 2ft x 2ft x 4ft with two 4"x12' ports tuned somewhere in the low teens. Adire's old EBS reference design. Briangt has a build gallery on these@briangt.com
You're right these are not available...
So your best bet is the Dayton DVC or the Dayton Titanic...
Because of the lower Vas, the Titanic would have a small bump of 1 dB in-room between 15 and 20 Hz. It could take more power because it got more excursion.
Afterall, maybe you're better with the Dayton DVC, if the Titanic SQ isn't that much better.
