Hi,

I asked a bloke for aa quote on a custom transformer job with the stats as follows:

400VA
Dual 22v secondaries
lowest noise possible 😉

And he quote me AUS$320

What are your views on this price? too steep or good deal?

Thanks for your time

Hehe... no comment, but I won't place the order........

You can get an Avel Lindberg 500va 25v+25v on Partsexpress from the US for (USD60 = AUD87) + (USD67 = AUD97) S/H = (USD 127 = AUD184) total. You should be able to get a cheap one there, for around half that price. Dual primaries, so they will work off 220-240v in addition to our 120v.

Alternately, Jaycar in australia has 12-0-12(24VCT I believe) toroids in both 160va and 300va. Buy two, ignore the centertap, hook them onto one PS, and you're good to go, for approximately the same amount of money for two 300va's as you would get the avel for one 500va.

So by that you mean ignore the 0 (centertap?) and treat the
4 12's from the 2 transformers as dual secondries?

so would the secondaries on the transformer be 24v or 12v?

Also how could i use a center tapped transformer in conjunction with peter daniels gainclone schematic? the one with the dual secondaries and 2 bridges?

Sorry for all the questions but im kinda new to this type of power distribution, always used batteries in past projects =/

Yes, I was suggesting a two-secondary/two bridge design and treating each toroid as a single secondary, but on reflection, that may not work.
Meh.
Get a 500va 25v+25v unit from Alltronics for AUD120, or go with a 300va 25+25 for AUD76.
