I built a set of Peerless speakers 7 years ago. A picture is attached below. Its an 8" woofer from the CSX line and the mid is part of the Classic line. The speakers are outstanding. I was doing some research and realized that my tweeters are discontinued. I was just wondering, what is a good alternative? I am pretty interested in using a horn tweeter, but will it work with my crossover? Could i use the Fostex FT17H?
any tweeter suggestions will be greatly appreciated
thanks very much.

I matched the peerless csx 176 6.5" and the vifa 27tg45 06 awsome sound the peerless tweeter are less acurate but for the money you will love vifa easy to cross mine are at 2500hz soft yet detailed sound never harsh
Hi,
with a dome midrange the tweeter c/o should be well away from
the Fs of the tweeter so the c/o should be fairly standard.
(unless the dome mid is being used in a special linear phase
configuration as a filler driver and the tweeters c/o frequency
is comparable to a 2-way design)
A horn loaded tweeter should be fine at this highish c/o frequency.
You will need to use a series and parallel resistor to reduce the
horns sensitivity and match the DCR of the current tweeter.
(or fit a 4 ohm or 8 ohm L-pad)
Phase isn't something you can do much about if you use a horn.
Depending on the depth of the horn reversing the phase may
sound better than the current phase connection.
With a dome midrange there's lots of possibilities for the tweeter.
Ribbon types, Planar types, 19mm types etc.
🙂 /sreten.

So your saying if i go with a horn tweeter, such as the Fostex i mentioned above, i will have to do some modifications to the crossover?

Hi,
You don't need to modify the crossover.
What you need to do is add an L-pad between the crossover
and the new horn tweeter.
However if the crossover for the tweeter contains level setting
resistors then you could modify the values to suit the new tweeter.
Best if you could show the crossover circuit for the current tweeter.

thanks for the help! i had this picture of my crossover on another thread...i hope this is good enough

what's an L-Pad?
is it worth doin this for a horn tweeter? are they generally better?

Hi,
a picture is not a circuit.

Is it worth doing what for a horn tweeter ?
Are they generally better ? Than what ? probably no.

I mean generally better than my Peerless tweeter. Or even the VIFA the other poster mentioned above.
u don't think its worth it to do this for a horn tweeter?

i was just wondering incase i need to replace them cuz the ones i have are discontinued. i was interested in a horn tweeter cuz lately i've been hearing they are much better. who makes the best horn tweeter?
thanks! I can get trade prices for these components, so i think i'm gonna look into the Vifa one...i get it for about $30 can. Would i need to modify the crossover for just a Vifa tweeter?

simply the lpad can do the job .it's to lower the volume of the tweeter because he's more sensative then the others.if you cross at 2500hz or more it's good
Oh and Solen has these to ....
