hello all.
my name is Ronny.
i am interested in troels box design (well most of it), but i want different drivers.
the design Jenzen-Illuminator
drivers:
T - VIFA XT25TG30-04
M - SS 18W/8531G00
B - SS 26W/8861T00
so i want to go active.
i have my tube amp (jolida jd1000rc currently driving a pair of proac 2.5 clones), probably to drive the mid.
i also can get a 4 channel amp (from a friend).
i read somewhere that the SS 18W/8531 will do fine in a 7 liter sealed box.
so i might do that (or a bigger sealed box).
if i will make the mid cab smaller i might add height to the bass cab hence
a bit longer TL (i think the line now is 1/4 wave 40 HZ). will it result a slightly deeper bass?
now to some active crossovers options:
my budget is up to 500$.
mainly, was thinking about the miniDSP 4x10 Hd | miniDSP
will it do all that a passive xo does (L pad, notch filter, baffle step etc)?
will i be able to avoid a pre amp (my sources are a pc and a cary cd player)
i like the up to 8 order LR option.
maybe ashly 4001?
maybe a pc based xover?
your opinions will be valued.

Nice project and nice drivers , the Illuminator design .
The cost of the coil also surpasses some nice drivers ,as also
the caps needed for Hp'ing the mid .
I guess you should do some research ( on the Net ) to see
which paths are often taken and how acoustic energy is distributed
in the audio spectrum .
The passive crossover does this easily , in accordance to driver's
construction and taking into account all the different issues occurring when more than a speaker is a sound source .
I guess that a 10/20 W amp would suit for the tweeter
probably needing an extra cap between the amp and the tw
Since that the construction of the project seems modular , you can start
from the mid chamber and test it with your amplifier .
Or you can start with the big box ....

Ah ah , Oorva wanted to change the components ,
I didn't read that 😱
Well
Going active is the best way to overcome the studies needed
to make a multi way speaker sound good .
Just make the driver work in its preferred band and you're done .
Then position the drivers in the room .
But going active has some issues too . It needs an electronic crossover
and more than a stereo amplifier , so some skills are needed too
to set the whole system perfectly .
A published project ( I hope ) has it all done : driver choice , cabinet
design and the CPU , the crossover .
I would love to see a SS 18W/8531G00 in my room , I don't even think it would need a woofer below it .
Ronny , if you're interested in TL designs , I think you are in the right place .
Low bass extension and SPL might be a plus if the cabinet is well done .
Looking at Troel's design , I really don't like the way the drivers are 'suffocated' in the first part of the line , but they might work 😕
But , remember that the crossover circuit is the heart of any loudspeaker
system , designed specifically for it and nothing else .

thanks
this are my final drivers
T - SS 6600
M - SS 18W/8531G00
B - SS 26W/8861T00
the box design would be as in my first message.
now if anyone has some ideas for active XO.

Jensen-1071 instead ? and you can go to full passive.
Active XO with a geometry like the Jensen illuminator doesn't have a lot of sense...

Here is my build with the exact same drivers as yours.

They're working in an active setup with xo at 270hz lr12 and 1700hz lr24
They sound like a charm just missing the gloss finish 😉

nice nice work
what active xo are you using?
where can i buy damping materials (especially the felt)?
