Gluing MDF together

Is there a problem if gluing a board to another board when the mating surface(s) are contaminated with spillover glue?

Titebond white glue is the culprit. Will I have adhesion problems if I glue over with more Titebond? How about if I use Gorilla Glue?

Can you sand it off, or at least make sure the surface is close to smooth?

Are you trying to glue to the flat surface or the rounded surface? If the flat surface, clean it up with a handplane set to a very light cut or very, very carefully with a chisel. If it's the round surface, don't do that again!

You should have no problem if the layer is real thin as you show.
And of course light sanding will noth remove any excess and mak micro sctarches on the surface which will absorb new glue and improve contact.
And anyway , don´t know the brands you mention for obvious reasons (10000 Km away 😉 ) but in general carpenter type water based vinyl glue sticks very well to same type glue, even if the old one is dry.
Only problem might be if the old dry one is too thick or has, say, irregular drops which prevent good contact on the flatter parts, easy to solve.

Great, thanks. I already went ahead and glued it together (haha) but hopefully there are no issues. The surface is quite smooth, just hardened because of the glue.

For what's it's worth, I was wrong about the glue I use. It's actually Weldbond, not Titebond.

Next time try to do a double rabbet joint instead of the single rabbet so the two surfaces nest together and the "tongue" that split would be half the length.
It's an extra step but it's worth it if you can manage the joint.
