glue for surround?

im working on a kicker square speaker and the surround is made of rubber. i wish i could describe it better but i dont know much about different kinds of rubber all i know is that its black. im trying to glue it to a aluminum cage. right now im using contact cement and it seems to stick to the aluminum but not at all to the rubber surround. ive tried scuffing it up and cleaning the rubber but nothing will stick. i dont want to use expoxy because it would be expensive and im guessing it would try to hard.

any ideas?

Look at PArts Express. they sell a lot of speaker related stuff, including recone materials. I couldn;t tell you if there is a special speaker cement for rubber, but it is a place to start.

Also, google "speaker reconing", I know that gets you to a number of suppliers

Hello scampo77, here's two website below of adhesive manufacturers. There are many others. I know both make adhesives tailored to gluing rubber. I would say it's best to poke around here and on google and see what you find. Don't forget to read the details about the adhesives, and the MSDS. The MSDS will give you information about how dangerous the chemicals in the adhesive are, so you can decide if you are comfortable using it.

thanks everyone i got ahold of a loctite sales rep and he sold me something called black contact adhesive part number 30540. it looks and smalls like contact cement but he said it is different.

i cleaned up the speaker cage and re glued it. it seems to be holding better then the regular contact cement, but who knows. ill put some horse power to the speaker and see how it holds up. ill keep everyone posted

"Amazing Goop" glue also works well for cone to surround and surround to basket. (Supposedly will do almost everything but I can only vouch for it in those applications) I run over 2KW into a sub I built up with that with no ill effects and I personally witnessed a 10" woofer repaired on the surround with it holding over 4KW
