Resurrecting the thread and going back to the initial question - a lot has been said on this and other threads about replacement transistors, but all appear to be tough to get here in 2017. Does anyone have ideas about what else might be out there to upgrade/update the small signal gain transistors? What about the matched pair? Current sources? Power output transistors? My old 555 isn't ready for that yet, but may be in a couple weeks, and I wanted to start shopping for some parts, just in case. I accidently put my posting in the "Pass" section (seemed logical, as he was the designer), but most of the 555 work appears to be here in the "Solid State" section.
