Getting to 20 Hz

Just a small point. Someone mentioned the need for +/- 0.6 inches (about +/- 1.5cm) in order to get a decent SPL at 20Hz. I would just point out that the 10" Peerless XLS drivers can do this, and have a Fs of 20Hz, plus a Qts of 0.18... So it's quite doable. Just get a 600W amp to power it.

multiple 12"-15"'s. Cheapies are fine. Use a wall and make an infinite bafle, or better yet, if you have an attic, make a 'box' vent in the cieling with a square hole, 16-18 inches on each side, directly over the speaker area. then in that hole, let it be 8 12-15" cheap woofers in a box configuration..and series paralell wiring. Have the attic be the box, and the room be the vent. Guaranteed to get you to 10-12hz, at about 120-125+ db, no problemo. Cheap too.

let's say the 8 15" woofers are $100 each. The rest of the expense is pretty negligable and mostly comprises work, done by you.

Just add as minor point here :

If you can get good low bass in room it is totally inaudible elsewhere,
once you've experienced it the reasons are totally obvious.
(you can't hear it in the next room , nevermind anywhere else)

Bass extension does not annoy nieghbours, playing music at SPL
levels to make low bass audible is completely different, and its
bass circa 100hz that causes the problems, hardly real bass.
