I've been trying to figure out a way to get 6 channel surround out of my cheap old apex 500w DVD player. If anybody could help me by telling me how or if it is possible any help would be greatly appreciated
Well, I looked up the model and it has all sorts of outputs on it...including digital. ( perhaps there is a newer 500w, and i'm looking at the wrong one ).
If i were you, i'd keep my eyes peeled on ebay for a Technics SH-AC300 or SH-AC500 processor, and run an optical cable between the two. The AC300 goes for 20-30 bucks these days, and has all the preamp outputs on it. Build yourself a 5 channel gainclone and you're in business 🙂
hope i answered your question,

What are you trying to accomplish? Surround for movies or surround for DVD-Audio? If it is for movies, you will need a decoder if your DVD player does not have one built in. If it is for DVD-Audio, you will need a DVD audio player. Likely it has a decoder for movies as well. Nothing to stop you from tying into the I2S right at the chip. I am thinking about doing that on my low end JVC. It will be a lot cheaper than buying an expensive unit.
