Hi, the dvd re-writer, it's a +-r, +-rw, liteon 8x internal atapi/E-ide
It has 98se on the os list.
It has 98se on the os list.
If this is easier than finding an other alternative.... Go for it! It should take an hour or so (less if you have experience). Then you will be able to get what you need right at home!
well today is written off, so installing dvd on the old OS is this afternoon's task.
Back in a while with results.

Hi,
that was easy.
simple instructions that work.
About 5days and 23hours easier than Toshiba.
I reckon Tosh should take lessons from Liteon on how to write instructions.
Now where's that driver file link that KP gave me?

At this rate it is probably several hundred posts back (did we hit several hundred posts yet? Feels like it). Or in the email I sent you!

Hi Kp,
that was not a real question I think I was talking to myself.
I have downloaded the files again and copied them to the dvd +rw.
DVD auto loaded nero, copied but it didn't, tried again. format the DVD disc,
tried again.
erased the dvd disc
tried again.
test the disc, reports "locked by INcd" ?
go to sonic, format again. copy
yet again reports successful copy.
This time sonic sees the files.
But explorer can't/won't look in the dvd.
However the laptop sees the files.
forced the laptop to go to where I have the driver files disc.
re-install is looking for a *.inf file and sees 3 matching files.
I select each in turn and the next button is always greyed out. Seems to not be the file it is expecting to find.
Should the folder have a specific name? There are 21 files in "Network Driver" folder.

re-install wizard only lets me see the inf files all the other are effectively hidden. and each of the three inf files do not light up next.
not going anywhere.

I guess the retailer supports the laptop.
but they may have a contract with the manufacturer to hand back support.
Maybe that's where I should be?

I am searching the web-site (the same where the drivers came from) I am missing some detail or this is one of those Hidden "Technical Issue Bulletins" that they keep quiet until someone needs help. Try them and I will keep looking! If you aren't watching here if I find something, I will email you!
I don't care how flat my head gets, this won't beat us!
Too bad I can't be there, sometimes that helps

Which Toshiba Sattlite A120 do you have:
"PSAC1E" Intel LAN Adapter (This the driver you downloaded)
"PSAC0E" RealTek LAN Adapter This is where you can download it: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe....=22&page=1&ID=53392&OSID=10&driverLanguage=42
I hate when this happens!

You have the right driver then unless they mixed some up. You can try to download the second one to a CD with the desktop and see if that works, I am baffled at this point
Hi,
the "wrong" download found one extra inf file. but still next won't light up.
Tried XP's troubleshooter.
after the 6 or so steps, it suggested a faulty component and ask for the manufacturers' help. skip this, then it said "cannot solve this problem"

Hi Andrew,
No matter how good we are at this or many days we spend, we can't get past faulty equipment. If you can, try Tech Support from the retailer who will either help or refer you to Toshiba directly. Hopefully, it is something stupid that I overlooked but I am getting the feeling that something is really wrong with the LAN adapter.
What a shame if that is the case.... so much time spent on a brick wall, my head hurts!
