For PapaZBill:
Will a flyback type supply using feedback power up and idle (without excessive current draw) with the rectifiers out of the circuit?

Perry, this is a good question. I don't recall having left the rectifiers out to check this type of boost converter. I normally pull the mosfets and check the drive.
In this case the drive is good, based on the screen shots, so the power supply should be okay.
I think what might be happening is the UC3843 internal mechanism is compensating for the lack of rail and increasing the pulse width causing excessive idle current.
Peeby, install the rectifiers and see if this changes the idle current
