Hi guys.
A customer sent me a Gemini RS-410 monitor. After turning on, it makes an awfully loud noise that goes away after a while and then works all right. If it is turned on after a long time, the noise takes longer to disappear, when turning power off and then on again, it is not there. It's there with volume and level controls all the way down. Appears to be temperature dependant, or e-cap (charge) related, or something in this direction. Could also be a cold solder joint.
These monitors are cramped with components and glue and other stuff that makes it almost impossible to work on.
Also, I couldn't find a service manual anywhere.
Does anyone have the same issue with these powered speakers? How did you solve it?

How old is it? Could it be dried out electrolytics on the supply rails no longer decoupling them allowing unwanted feedback path through the supplies?
I really don't know how old this monitor is. I will ask the owner. Dried out e-caps certainly is a valid possibility.
Hello again. Its been a while. This monitor got fixed, btw. it was 2 SMD resistors whith cold solder joints. I wasn;t able to locate the fault because I dont really work SMD. I'm old...
This time I got another RS410 monitor with a similar issue: this one makes a loud hum that comes from the woofer amplifier. I checked the transistors and they are ok. I suspect a shot but cannot locate it, Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention: It is definitely the LF amp board, When I disconnect the wires comming from the preamp there is no noise.
