Your comparisons have me fascinated! Keep them coming, please.

So how much is a flight from Vancouver to Shanghai???:clown:

Probably cheaper to build a MSS. Guess I'd better get started. So many projects, so little time ...

Hi metalman

Beside my desk, I have a Taiwanese who was made in Korea and now has Canadian passport. He owns a house in Vancouver. He informs of about USD1000 for the return ticket from Shanghai to Vancouver. No need to come here, save money and buy as many as CDs you like. 😉 The difference is not that big for you to visit here and see it.

One day, one of my Chinese colleagues said, “Oh, the sound [MSS] is very nice. Must be the speakers are very good.” Yes, the speakers look good and the amps look hand-made.

Last night, one girl was in my living room. She replied, “That [GCSS] is better.” I shouted her, “Shut up and get out of here!” She replied, “Ah Ya... similar. same, same. no difference ...” She ran into my computer room and played computer game quietly. Ha ha ha.

Yes, I am enjoying and will continue listening ... 🙂

12. Sugar Baby

GCSS/ MSS(paralleled)

When Bob Dylan sings "Sugar Baby," MSS has a bit bigger mouth and a bit more air outcome while GCSS has a bit smaller mouth but a bit better glossy voice. MSS has a clear delay (echo or hall tone) while GCSS has less delay. Again, GCSS has short tail at the end of bass sound. This gives a bit light feeling in bass sound.

Info: PSU caps for MSS 22,000uF//47uF//0.1uF//0.1uF//0.1uf paralleled while for GCSS 22,000uF//0.22uF paralleled.

MSS burns the low end sound in the smelting furnace while GCSS well picks up the girl's occational moaning of a bit better sex-appeal nasal. :shy:

Maria Callas
Romantic CALLAS

I am not an opera fan. Nevertheless, I really love and put this CD on the top of my collection list. Even though Maria Callas has lack of pretty voice, compared with the other sopranos, I feel that her inner quality is on the top—powerful and emotional. It is strange. My feeling is melting into even if I do not understand her language. Ahhh... if I need to cry, I would cry, listening to this Maria Callas.

Last night, I put this CD on my player to compare MSS/GCSS. But, as soon as I started listening, I lost myself. To the end. I forgot everything else, and I wanted to take some beer.

Ahhh! The path to Nirvana! This is the ideal that I am trying to achieve, where the equipment dissappears and I am left with only rapture.

How exactly do you have this configured? Do you have 22,000µF right on the chip pins? If not, what's at the chip?

Is this regulated power, "classic" unregulated, or some other variant?

jh6you,

Mighty fine taste in music you have. And please keep those
reports coming!

Classic PSU. 2x(12V-0V) goes to one bridge diode, then goes to two 22,000uF caps for + rail and –rail, and two 0.22uF are paralleled with the big caps. Finally, the +/- rails run over about 150mm distance to metalman’s circuit. That is all.

A few pages back, it looked like we were trying to form a consensus about which chip to build a GCSS around. I like the 3886 myself because I like beefier coils in my speaker drivers but I could live with the 4780. Just make sure that whatever you draw up has the option for a T-Network.

GCSS vs. MSS(paralleled)

Weather is somewhat grey and melancholy. The mild winds musically cover the open field of reeds. As if the conductor’s hands were of low-RPM irregular propellers. One girl is standing in the middle of the scene, leaning against the winds. She is holding something. She is a violin girl. Flickering loosely, playing Tchaikovsky violin concerto, the second movement.

MSS plays the grey, melancholy and windy scene better to my imaginary taste while GCSS lights up the scene at a bit brighter scale and has lack of the smoothness at lower end.

GCSS vs. MSS

3. Georgia on my mind

In front of drumer's subtle brushwork, the guitar and violin share conversation in their low and lovely tone. The bass can not wait long and jealously pushes the guitar away. Piano interupts the bass in rather high tone. As if to blame the bass. The drum supports the piano just behind it ...

GCSS does not show well the drumer's subtle brushwork. But, the guitar and violin are very fine.
