Hi Tea,

I have been reading through the main thread and came across your blog with tips and advice in it. I had a look and thought it wise to check C1 & C2 , I installed C2 in its position because it has 330 stamped on it and likewise C1 has 100 stamped on it. Now I have checked them with the MM and C2 measures 0.99 with the MM set to 20K ohms and C1 measures 0.33 with the MM set to 20M ohms. Have I incorrectly installed them by following the stamped number?

The MM won't help you measuring resistance I don't think.
The caps in my stash for 10 and 33pf do not have any labels I marked them with red for 10pf and black for 33pf on the 'tape' that holds them in a spool.
it's possible earlier kits these were marked. Are they little blue caps?

Yes they are the little blue caps, the markings are tiny and can only be seen with a lens.
I had not read your blog so the red and black markings were missed and I went off the printed numbers, had they not been there I would have asked about it.

Thanks.

LOL. I am getting old and blind. The bench magnifying glass I could not see the writing. A loupe under natural light I was able to see the writing. you are correct they are labeled as you see. You are good.

Tea

Finally received my kit today which you dispatched on 22 April. Thank you.

I guess I shouldn't be that surprised that it took so long given the difficulties the world is going through with the dreaded virus and consequent transport disruption but I must say I was mighty pleased when the postman handed me the long awaited distinctive purple package.

Let the project commence.

The 'next' GB of the DCG-3 will use BC327-40 instead of BC560c, as the later is end of life, and there is probably a preference as such. The bc560c quads will be offered as the premium option now, although it may not be the highest performance, merely an option.
I believe the consensus on the sound is that the BC560c is a bit bolder sounding, the BC327-40 more polite. But I am probably given it less comparison time than some others here.
Also, the upa68H transistors are now getting quite rare, and have been sampling my diet of unreliable sources to look for the true thing. I should have some on their way, but they will be a higher cost. So the kit will go up in price a bit accordingly. I will edit these as soon as the rest of the cost of the project is ironed out, product in hand or ordered so I know what parts substitutions may be used. Currently it is only resistors swaps. China tarriffs have hit the cost as well a bit.
