hi
I have an OHP and i have a projection panel. Put I would like to know if a gameboy has a backlight or other hand held game has a back light. Because if yes, I would get a cheep game boy and dismantel it and remove the backlight and make it into a projection panel. So i wunder if it would be posible. And then place it on my OHP

all lcd's are backlit.....that's how you see them.....
if you dismantle a gameboy, won't you have to find a way to adapt a video signal to the screens input?.....if you manage it let me know how.....i can get my hands on one of those, although the resolution is probably mega low......

the gameboy plays games that are on par with the original nintendo...right?

and the gameboy advance is similar to the snes and genesis....i believe....in bit quality/amounts

by mentioning the original gameboy and not the advance i'm hoping you're at least talking about the GB color......the original was monochrome and wouldn't be good for anything......at all

so perhaps a gameboy advance or better screen might work with your idea.......

let me know how things go

I'm not sure where you got that idea! Have you ever tried to play a gameboy in the dark? There are newer versions which have a backlight, but the originals and I think the GB color, and possibly the non-flip advance, had no backlight. Backlights absolutely kill batteries, and that's why these units don't have them.

How do you see it then? There are certain optics inside the GB (behind the LCD) which reflect incoming light in a diffused fashion. This may cause the screen to appear slightly backlit, but just hold your hand over the screen and peek in, you won't see Link in his 2bit glory I assure you.

Also magic_mat, if you do get any emailed responses please request them to be posted, this is a public forum, if you get answers they should be available to everyone, not just you.

no backlight. SO !!!

but if it has not got a backlight cant i take off the case and let the light from the ohp go through the game boy screen (Gameboy Colour) and then it would project? also i wasnt thinking about conecting it to my tv it was just going to project gameboy.

please reply

just to correct myself along with all the others......

the GB wasn't back lit..........my bad.....

i should have remembered that..........had one way back and hated it for that exact reason.......

the hard part in my opinion would not be the projection, but the control of the thing while it's being projected unless you plan on expanding the controler length considerably..........

Well as far as I know it won't work, because the screen is reflective, not transmissive, so it won't let light through. I'm not sure, but I think that even the GBA SP uses a reflective screen with a front-light, so the light is going into the screen and reflecting back out making the image visable.

The new game boy advance SP has a transreflective screen. Meaning that it has a weak backlight but also can be lit from outside sources. My nephew just had one the other day and was playing it without an external light in a dark car.

None of the others had a backlight but were strictly a reflective type LCD. I'm unsure if the transreflective type of screen would have as much gain from being back lit as a regular transmissive screen.

THe SP is lit, but it's not a backlight.

It's actually an led at the bottom and just in front of the screen.

Pretty crummy in my opinion.

It can be backlit though. They have kits to install mini floro and led backlights.

So... it stands to reason that the screen is transmissive, and should work for projection.

They even have rca adapters for watching movies and using other game systems with the GB screen.

SUPER crummy resolution though.

2.9" screen, 240x160 res

I had a link for making a DIY AV adapter, but I can't seem to find it.

No, lol, they arent, there is transmisive, reflective, and trans flective, and more. Transflective is both reflective and transmisible and its one of the new lcd's that are being made today for laptop use to save battery power during the day, also on mobile phones now too, lets just hope not on everything or we will be in the poop! lol

Yes and yes.

magic_mat, if worse comes to worst, you can just get a super gameboy and, if you don't already have one, an SNES. Then all you need is the A/V cord for the SNES. Given, you'll also still need an LCD with composite in, but this is the easy way to use your GB with your projector. 😉

So in theory I could get a sega gamegear, take the sceen out and extend the ribbon cable from the lcd to the circut board so its about 4-5 meters. Then I could use the sceen I have just taken out the gamegear in my projector, and still have it connected to the gamegear with my extended ribbon cable so that the gamegear can still be used to loads the games and so that I can use it as a control pad (thast why Id extend the ribbon cable 4-6 meters)

I know as i would only be able to play gamegear games on it, and I wouldnt be able to get a very big projected picture (the screen res is a bit small) some people might think its pointless, But im jus looking for cheap ways that I can get a little project off the ground now, and with wasting to much money on learning 😉

If any experts could give me any advice on what im trying to do id be more then gratfull
