Now, how about some innovations in a Patek line: a 5 channel amp that I'm presently buiding a prototype for. The footprint is 12 x 8; 2" high.

I'm sending two SE amps to Spain in 5 weeks.

In Patek HT all channels are the same. There is still room for one more, but the customer wanted 5 channels only. Besides, with such rather small chassis heat disipation becomes problem and there is not really enough space at the back for additional set of binding posts. 😉

Hi Peter,

The review of Patek looks very impressive.

A) The bypass cap is 100 per rail on chip. How about the cap at the power supplies, is that two of 1,500UF ?? 😕 My first feeling is that is too small to feed two channel at +/- 32V ( even smaller cap than the original Gaincard)!!.

B). Have you ever try all cap on the same PCB like 1,500-->100-->Chip ? 😉 I wonder if it should be better than both channel sharing a pair of 1,500 ( i.e. 750UF per rail).

Sorry for these newbie questions.

I have additional caps beside rectifiers (in PS unit). Those are BG STD 1000/50. I prefer to keep them separated from 100uF caps, as it gives smaller caps more air to breath 😉

The bass is fine, but it may depend on the speakers as well.

At one time, I was using 100uF caps only, and the sound was even better, but the bass was somewhat lacking on certain listening material.

The patek's quite opposite to the AMP-2 (which has 1,000UF at chip, dual mono, rectfiered & transformer as close as the chip).

Any technical reason (e.g. radiator from diode, single transformer is more musical???) why the significant differences is? 😕

What your comments are on the sound difference of both amp?

Have you ever use the golden case "Illinois Cap" (low ESR) compared with BG 100/50 ?
