Hi there. After 30 minutes of projection a funny smell shows up in my room. It is quite similar to the smell in a solarium! (ozone?) 😕 Is it possible that it has something to do with the UV radiation? How to get rid of this smell? It is not very intense but after a while it gets annoying.
My setup: 400W BLV lamp (42000 lum)
400W sodium lamp ballast

what type of enclosure do you have your projector in? if it's mdf, ply, etc, the glues in the wood will burn and make a strange smell
Used any spray paint? as I used BBQ black matt spray paint, and it had to be 'burnt in' and then the smell went.
Took around 30 hours of use 🙁 good job it wa sin summer and the windows were wide open all the time

Nope, I didn't use any paint at all (this is still a prototype 😉)
...BUT i think I know where the problem is. This is my DIY lightbox:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
The fan is sucking hot air from the lightbox through an alluminium hose. After a while the fan gets really hot. Maby not "burning hot" but hot enough to smell funny 😉, I think like 70 to 80 ^C. Now... do you have any ideas how to solve this problem? Should I look for a "temperature-proof" fan? Unfortunately there is not much space left for a longer hose 🙁
