You can do that, too- in my article, I showed several different formats as examples. Either ABX or triangle would be my first choice in answering the initial questions before moving on (or not!) to the hedonic testing. The important thing is control of variables.
Probably now worth pointing to this thread, http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/194882-double-blind-auditions-thread.html#post2677253. I note the term "hedonic", meaning "connected with feelings of pleasure", which is where I feel ABX may go off the rails at times - to me, far more useful is "correctness"; which version of the sound do you consider is "least wrong"?
I can't help feeling that the process of selection/training of the listeners is also predetermining the outcome of the test.
Selecting people with a preference for the colour blue and then asking them to choose between red and blue.

To an extent, yes. If you select 10 people with partially functional hearing aids, it's unlikely that you'll get a meaningful result.
But yet again, you have to be specific about the question you're asking in order to determine ALL experimental protocols, listener selection and training included. It still doesn't seem like you've taken that first step yet.

The selection will consist of copies of the teacher. Anyone with a different opinion to the teacher will have been excluded. If I prefer analogue over digital or silver over copper so will my selected/trained listeners. I am sure that the 10 people with partially functional hearing aids will have been filtered out. I am trying to understand what choices the selected listeners will make.
A different approach might be to exclude the listeners at each end of the spectrum, leaving a middle group that have not been selected to give a predetermined outcome.

You want listeners that give reliable results, that excludes people with severe hearing damage. Lots of young people have severe hearing damage!
Hi,
I prefer the French TV take.
No need for the teacher to let them know what his personal preference is, right?
Cheers, 😉
Well, since you don't seem to want to take the necessary first step, at least we can entertain ourselves.

Isn't that exactly what teachers do. They mould you into their way of thinking.
Here we go one step further and remove anyone that has a bad grade.

So are you then testing how well they follow you?

Not any competent ones, no.
Hi,
Now followed by an excerpt of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" for further entertainment:

Errr....does You Tube pay the forum any royalties? 😀

I started with a group of listeners without any special qualifications but this was apparently not good, they need to be trained and selected on their ability.
I am teaching, testing and rejecting the non talented.

Still remember arguing to learn string theory in high school physics- the teacher refused, saying "if it's not in the textbooks, it doesn't exist".
Moulding young minds, or molding them?

It all depends on what you want to test.
Its that first question SY is rightfully hammering about.
We've all had good and bad teachers. The good ones teach you think for yourself and learn for yourself.
I am trying to design a method for testing audio devices. First I want to understand the conditions before fixing a question.
That's totally backwards. Until you know the question you're trying to ask, you can't possibly determine the "conditions" for answering it. If you say, "I want to weigh something, how should I do it and what kind of equipment do I need?" you have to first understand that there's a different answer for a cruise ship versus a hydrogen atom. And even a different answer for a hydrogen atom versus a garden fairy, where the existence of the latter is another unknown.
