Funniest DIY Disasters

I recently picked up a pair of "Hi Fi Vifa Speakers - Need Repair" off a local person selling them online.

They were so cheap that I took a punt on the woofers being in working condition.

When they got to me I almost fell off my chair, the outside of one was covered in contact, and the other was painted and "beautifully" layered in speaker cloth, held on with double sided tape!

Then I opened them up....

I really do support people having a go at things. I also support them getting help where needed!

I imagine that the "needs repair" probably relates more to the amplifier that was connected to these still-born "Wilson pup slayers".

I rather liked the touch of blu-tak holding the top panel on, it is probably hard to see the staples that assisted the tape in holding everything in place.

I also figure that whoever built these was of the "well if the solder is close to the joint, then that is enough" school. Many "joints were made next to the components, including an input socket.

Or maybe the person was drunk. That would be my excuse🙂

The happy ending to this story is that the killer job on wiring appeared to have taken out the amplifier before it took out the speaker drivers. So a redesign of the crossover, sand and refinish of the boxes delivered me a bargain pair of speakers for the barbecue area....
