Hi

I try in my system they still sound good
and some buyers reported the same
mods in power amp, preamp and cd player

the only trouble happen when custom checking
the worst was a hole made by a nail & hammer

they got weight enough, big body, a big branded name
sometimes i measured them with capacitor meter
with the result between 12500 - 13200 uf

They may well be absolutely fine and in fact probably are but since they have sat unused for 9 years the oxide layer may have deteriorated. Personally I would test to see if they need reforming and check the leakage at the rated voltage is within specification before connecting them to anything.

Jeffrey, Have you been able to find postal details on my caps which you said you may have sent, but which have never arrived. I would appreciate a response to know where we stand on these. thank you, John

Hi John

I searched all the place in my house but i can found it
But i sure that, i look them before i went to BALI

if you agree maybe the solution will be like this
- I will send another package for you
- If you receive 1 package/12 caps so you didnt pay me anymore
- If you receive 2 package/24 caps so you pay me another US$70

Is This OK ?

Thank you, best regards

Hi JonHarrison,

I reformed mine, how do I check the leakage?
They were charged to 58V and dropped about 5V in 24 hours, after 3 days they were in the 4X volt range.
This seemed a bit high to me but hard to know what Im looking for. What I do know is the leakage was much worse than big cans much older, but is that because cans are better quality, more robust etc or these caps are leaky?

Thanks Luke for the information

i just test in Krell KSA 50 by Abin
after the PA on in view hours there is a little bit decrease
(desolder the caps from pcb than i solder them again)

before : 12.837 uf
after : 12. 822 uf

cause i must finished the older works i never check again

- 3 Power amp ( Repair & Mods, 2 my friend )
- 3 Pre Amp ( Mods, 2 diy ask help for setting )
- 2 shigaclone ( Mods, follow the thread, chassis )
- Wadia 12 ( Repair, listening, mods )

Jon if you look for the best capacitor function
why you didnt try another caps like panasonic
that apex jr sold it

i sold this caps cause they sound was wonderful
and help some member here to get cheaper price
and i mention this in the beginning of the thread

Thank You

Hi

I found this ELNA FOR AUDIO 12.000 63V at Local Store
I bought a little, but they have a lot in their stock
They produce a good sound

If you interest i can help you buy it @ US$4 ...

Regards, Jeffry

Hi Jeffry,

can I be clear that I am not complaining, I think on ebay I would pay alot more for similar stock/vintage. I was just asking JonHenry if he knows how I can test leakage, I guess I already have, but I'm not sure how to assess my results. Its curiosity and whatever I discover, I will be using all these caps.

Luke,

Connect the capacitor to a bench supply via a resistor (say 47k) in series with the positive terminal. Set the supply to the rated voltage of the capacitor (63V) - being careful not to touch / short any leads as a capacitor of this size charged to that voltage is dangerous !!! 😱

(+)--47k--(+)
|...........|
cap........63V
|...........|
(-)-------(-)

(sorry ignore the white I couldn't get the | for the cap and supply leads to space properly even with fixedsys font)

Measure the voltage across the resistor with a DVM, as the capacitor charges the voltage across the capacitor will increase and the voltage across the resistor will drop (both added together must equal the bench supply of 63V). After a period of time the voltage will stabilise and then I = V/R will give you the leakage current.

Once you've finished testing it, you can discharge the capacitor through the 47k resistor.

I reformed and tested some old BHC capacitors using this method the other week, it took several hours for the voltage to drop but I measured leakage currents of around 40-60uA.

Hope that helps.

Jeffry, I wasn't complaining either simply pointing out that if they've been unused for 9 years they might need reforming.

Cheers,

Jon

Will this setup work? I do not have a way to generate 63VDC.

That would work to some degree but I wouldn't do it for three reasons

1) you can't limit the current with the variac
2) you won't know what the AC ripple will be unless you can measure it
3) MAINS ! 🙁

Much better with a current limited DC bench supply

How much for 4 12000uf @ 63volts sent to USA CALIFORNIA 95758?

Also do you have any price sheets for other capacitors your selling im interested in buying a large quantity assortment of them please if you can post prices and specs for capacitors you have avaliable.

Thanks

VERY SORRY FOR MY LATE REPLY

im just came back from office duty from east indonesia and came back yesterday

i got some caps, how much caps you need

pls let me know your country so i can make
estimated shipping cost

thank you, best regards
