Hello again, PRR! 🙂
First time I come across this resource, but it seems fantastic. Thank you for pointing it out. I will check it out.
OK, I understand. Thank you for taking the time to point this out to me.They are just drastic over kill.
found it, thank you! There is a thread on the monoblock conversion here somewhere that gave me the idea. "I converted my M2 and Aleph J to monoblocks for $12." or something like that.

Thank you very much for your feedback mbrennwa!
I see the point about the size now and will think about the design again 🙄. But why would you add more heatsinks to a case that has just a single channel?
I will definately install speaker protection then!
In general, I feel the box is waaay bigger than necessary. Just one side for heatsinking? There are five more sides that could have at least some heatsink.

Thank you for sharing. I did not know this could happen. I am glad your home did not catch fire and that noone was hurt.I forget to turn off my FirstWatt F5 when I left the house. While it was home alone, the amp developed a 24 VDC output on the speaker terminals, which was heating up the woofers a bit too much. When I got home, the smell in the house was bad. I was lucky there was no fire, so all I had to do was to get some new woofers and a bunch of speaker protection boards for the F5.
Better safe than sorry!

More heatsink means more capacity for idle dissipation, which means higher bias, which usually means better sound.

Understand everyone's position, mine is I dont, well havent used speaker protection as of yet. I recently had some boards made from another members gerbers, so that may change.
As of yet I have never had trouble like this....the cautionary tale all seemed to have missed here is: Don't leave home with your Class A (or any amp for that matter) still turned on...😱

Progress update
Hi everyone,
just to let you know, the amplifier chassis is progressing. Attached are pictures from this weekend, when I drilled 480 holes into the top and bottom plates.
Plenty of aluminium shavings were created as a byproduct of the drilling process. Even tiny shavings are very sharp and cling to clothing and shoes. Drilling aluminium is incredibly dirty.
😀
I also had assembled most parts to see whether my drilled wholes were sufficiently accurate. It already resembled a box, although I have not taken pictures.
The next steps will be to drill non-standard holes and openings. Until now I have only drilled M5 and M6 screw holes. Following that, I will have it sandblasted and powder coated at a local workshop.
