Free PC Based Ripping App?

I'm looking for a good Free app to rip my CD's into MP3 (not itunes)

For quality listening I will listen to the CD, but for listening
portable (in my Jeep etc) I would like to rip them to MP3.

Note: I'm not sure if there is a reason to rip into a different format
other than MP3 for portable use since there is enough road noise in
my Jeep to not really hear the quality difference.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Free? Aren't they all free? lol Well there are paid programs that accomplish this as well but if your only use is ripping & encoding, there's tons of free options out there to do this. EAC + LAME is what I've always used and still use today. It's a little more complicated to setup than other single/all-in-one programs or media player software, but it nets the best results IMO.

Most media player software can do this as well, even the free ones but then some have limitations on what you can do without getting the paid version. Still CD ripping is a really basic feature these days and included in lots of free media players and many can do the job with your own Lame dll compile (recommend finding at rarewares) which basically nets the exact same encode you'd get with the above combination, though perhaps a little less robust on the ripping half of the equation. Much more turn-key/easy to use though, but all depends on your preference.

Back in the day EAC didn't have the ability to do things like add album art, so you'd have to rip/encode with that and then tag with another program--made it a bit roundabout. But today you can do pretty much everything from right inside EAC, so it can be used as a one-stop-shop as well.
