KBK, you have been very brave to express your opinions so openly. You and I have a lot in common. However, you will find that many will use your 'openness' against you, perhaps even twist the meaning of what you have expressed.
Oh Geeze, look what the cat dragged in...😉

Hi John. Happy New Year

Hope all is well.

Cheers, John

When you see people selling a "buy in" at 5 kilobucks a pop, what is one to think?? What are they gonna get, a hundred suckers, at half a megabuck total? Chump change if you owned an over unity device.

The world is full of charlatans all right. Still I've witnessed one or two things which make me really wonder. One particular example of precognition really sticks in my mind.
I still firmly think that the world is due to get a hell of a lot weirder before we have all the answers, but thats my own trip.

Well, no matter the case, outcome, whatever- we all seem to have found a thread were we can go to, to entertain ourselves. That's a good thing. Perhaps the distraction will allow some of us to come up with something new and fun in the world of 'service to music', which is the very nature of this site, DIYaudio.

Perhaps my credibility will go up if I hang John Edwards? Or maybe just get a photo of him and start burning the eyes out with a cigarrette?

No. For me, all you have to do is discuss in a reasonable fashion that which I have taken you to task for. Diversion away from those topics does nothing to bolster your "creds".

You posted two specific items which appear to be really scientific at first glance, but crash and burn under scrutiny. I explained in detail why those two entities were unfounded, and you do not address the issue despite repeated requests. They are not difficult ones, per se, but are not amenable to discussion by the normal layman.

Tis clear that you aquired the two entities via a source which was without sufficient background to justify the verbage. That is one of the biggest concerns of mine with respect to the web....anybody on the planet can spout all kinds of unfounded pseudoscience whatsoever, and the layman will be unable to discern truth from fiction.

In the sciences, it is particularly bad...the average educational level is that of a 12 year old, and many 12 year olds can be bamboozled by slick sounding science-speak. And, luckily, 12 year olds typically do not have the capitol to invest in these erroneous "breakthroughs".

Unfortunately, many older guys do not have the education to sit back and ask the right questions.

I do not fall into that category. (the ed part, not the old one):bawling:

As I stated..."interesting" claims require proof. I trashed two of them, but note that you provided a "few" more, which I let slide.

Cheers, John

lol J, the age is showing.... it is called l337 (leet from elite) kinda the way kids speak nowadays... it is common to taunt competitors in online shooters, but you need to do it fast leading to lots of typo's.... pwned is "supposed" to be owned.... but pwned has kinda become the current "in thing"

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

They say there are almost 650 layers of muscles on the human body. I believe that...they all have pain receptors...

Good points jneutron.
If you make a technical point you should be prepared to discuss the technical aspects of that point. If not it is wise to restrict your comments to matters of metaphysics and philosophy.

Shoog

Just a general comment, Shoog, not a directed response.

Science, metaphysics and philosophy are becoming intertwined. Again. That is the reality of it. Like it or not. They weave in and out of one another, as always.

Metaphysics and science can co-exist, and metaphysics welcomes science with open arms. Philosophy and science can co-exist, and philosophy welcomes science with open arms.

Science is, generally speaking, insane enough to attempt, on an ongoing basis, to shoot the other two to death, any chance it gets. This is extremely bad manners, and in extremely bad taste. It is positively - without merit. It also posesses the utter gall and self imposed insanity to require that all points of understanding or attempts at such fit through a very polarized and narrow opening. Once a given thing has passed these tests it beomes written in stone and all members of the organization must pay homage to and utilize those as points of understanding, from that point forward.

The very definition of a religious cult, bent on domination. This is no joke. See it for what it is. Science is good, in moderation. Like anything else. This is only a skewed point of view I provide to show that it is logically possible to see science as not being the be-all end-all. It is also useful to understand that the viewpoint shows that science can be extremely dangerous to the progress of mankind, even through it's advances - provided for mankind. All things under some sort of sane analysis that encompass multiple disciplines and points of view, and all that.

Science has it merits, very much so. I respect them and enjoy them every day... nay, make use of it's tenants and ways, every day. But science cannot explain or understand all. Not by a long shot. I do not dismiss science, but I do not worship at it's altar. It's great for materialistic (physical world -- touchy-feely monkey stuff) viewpoints, but that will only take you so far. It will not take you everywhere or anywhere.

Nor will it ever do so. Just like the other two.

Mr. Curl: It may amuse you or you may find it odd, but I have never heard of the book until you mentioned it and I looked it up. All things I have posted, unless it is accidentally a quote of some sort I picked up somewhere (a philisophical viewpoint on psychology, I'm guessing-which I have never studied, except to stare closely at myself and other's layering), are entirely my own understandings. Many people arrive at the same spot, is my guess. Not unusual. If this is the case, my expression of a given quote may have seemed a bit odd, for the stated reason.

Jeeze,

Metaphysics is garbage.

Philosophy is half garbage.

Don't blame science in either case.

It is also useful to understand that the viewpoint shows that science can be extremely dangerous to the progress of mankind

Population is problem one. Idiots problem two. Defeating Darwin three... in turn causing two and one.

This guy does it much better.

I think you are right, there. And he can pwn it all he wants. Whoa. Charlie he may have put up there for shock value. He also had the forsight to copyright his site out to 2054. I guess he has decided the world will not end in in the Mayan derived date of 2012, but leans more toward Newton's prediction that it will end in 2060. Maybe he's just a disgruntled scientist.

Chicken or the egg?

Neither link really has much to do with metaphysics or philosophy, much less converging anything.

Point of view, friend, point of view.

However, for the sheer humor of it, there is an article linking the viewing of porn, by the human species, as being....arousing.

Never woulda figgered that one out.

"That surprised us," says first author Andrey P. Anokhin, Ph.D., research assistant professor of psychiatry. "We believed both pleasant and disturbing images would evoke a rapid response, but erotic scenes always elicited the strongest response."

KBK, you must have had one hellish grade 12 physics teacher :cuss:. Science is only a methodology and a tool with which to explore the universe - how, and what it is applied to depends entirely on the individual or organisation and the forces that motivate them.

You and others are entirely free to use alternative tools to explore the universe, as your will dictates. The problem only arises when the outcomes of such explorations are presented as science.

It is the forces of economics that currently dominate our global ethos: today the scientist is very much the lap dog of the economist who has a superior belief system based on unchallengeable tenets like the need for continual growth and expansion within a finite biosphere .

He's even got a Paypal account set up for donations, purchases, and subscriptions! :whacko:

"I have not received enough feedback to indicate that 25-30 human beings are currently willing to subscribe and pay the $40.00-$50.00 monthly subscription price."

Hmm... imagine that. To quote someone from this forum: "It is as if this man swapped his shirt and pants and what we see as his mouth is actually his anus, for what it spews is pure excrement!" I believe credit goes to "I Forgot" for that one.

Try meditation for the pain: "om-na-pad-...damn that hurts, time for ibuprofen".

Wish I could do that. I got a bum knee from martial arts at the age of 13. Can't ski, too much lateral pressure and twisting. Too bad, I'm a danger/speed freak, to a minor extent. I still haven't done it, but my idea of a good time, is jumping/running backward, eyes closed and hands over my head..out of a perfectly good airplane.

My car is too fast. 190mph. My daily driver. Winter too. my record is 145~150mph for about 40 minutes straight, at -25c in the winter, of course....and the car looks innocent. The best look to have. No one ever gives it a second look, no-one has any idea....the ultimate Q-ship. Brutal crash safety as well. I've seen/heard of 4 people in one of these rolling it at 180/kph..and all four walk away. I ripped the badges off it the first day I got it. Now it is totally a sleeper. I was never here. You never saw me. Go back to sleep. Incognito. If I ever get a speeding ticket, they'll likely just pull me out of the car and shoot me like a dog in the street. I'd probably get a few seconds on the national news with a new ticket speed record. I only do this on clear roads ~known ones~ of course. No-one else asked to be risked. Summer tires are 275/35/18's all around. Take those off 30mph off-ramps with passengers....at +80mph..ahhhhh! watch them squirm... (As I keep talking to them, looking at them, like I don't notice or something....evil, I know, but... 😀) but the tires don't even make the slightest squeak.....

On a more serious note, John, i'm still trying to figure out how to answer you. I believe, I fully answered the question, to the best of my abilities. It just seems, to me (true or not, there's always room for miscommunication), that I did answer it, it is just the answer is in a form you don't recognize. It's spread all over the whole thread, in various forms and ways. Before and after your direct questions. It has to do with the source point and method of the statements and how they were obtained. Something about the nature of the source method, that you don't personally accept. I cannot help that. All I can do, is suggest that you obtain the book, and pursue further, if desired.
