It has come to my attention that someone in the Malaysia area is using my name and has somehow got hold of my business registration certificate from several years ago !!
If anyone from the region comes across people purporting to be "ARGOS Loudspeaker and Publishing"... IT IS NOT ME !!!
IT IS A FRAUDULENT OPERATION !!!!!!

Bump !
I hope the moderators don't mind if I bump this occasionally.
This is not a pleasant issue, and I would like it to remain near the top for a while !!!

I nominate this to be stickied, at least until the word's been spread a bit..
Oh, and, Pricks.....

Andy, this is indeed very unfortunate, but I doubt that the mods can do anything about this. I don't think they should get involved in private or business disputes at all.
I hope that at the very least you will not be damaged financially.

Yep, they are even using an address I lived at 7-8 years ago, as well as the business name that I had registered at the time, which is well and truly out of date !!

I have contacted ASIC.
I hope not too many people have got stung !!!
This is really bad Andy, have you contacted Australian Federal Police yet??
I thought there was a unit dedicated to this sort of internet scam?
Perhaps we need a permanent thread on fraud and scams.

you should let the business registration people know so that they don't come after you when people complain!

You've contacted alibaba.com I hope?
I have tried to do so, don't know if I sent the email to the right people though, awaiting response.
Hi Andy, I am from that region of the world that you mentioned. I don't know about the rest of the world, but the word "alibaba" alone here carries a different meaning..... and NOT a good one. Just the name of that website alone is already fishy to me.....
I have 3 motives, in no particular order..
1. Protect myself,
2. protect others
3. shut them down if it can be done.
3a. would be nice if someone got their cahones kicked real hard ;-))

The only good thing about this is that when cahones get kicked in a country like Malaysia, it usually hurts for real and for a long time.

A good outcome.
I was able to contact the administration of site that had the listings.
The listing, and all reference to my old company name have been removed.

This is an interesting thread. This is basically identity theft in another form and one that can affect many of us here on the forum. Thanks for educating us here, Andy,
It's to alibaba.com's credit that they shut down the fraudulent client. But I fear that this is only the visible tip of the iceburg. Please keep us posted with your interactions with the gov't business administration depts. I think their response will be more important.
In the meantime, let's keep this thread near the top.
good luck, Andy!
