OK, thanks, i thought it was a different type/make of DSP perhaps at a better price, if one has, say a 3 way, this is still quite an expensive pack isn't it?
MiniDSP makes a number of models....I'm using the basic MiniDSP 2x4, about $95 at MiniDSP or $105 at Parts Express
The next one up is the MiniDSP HD 2x4 about $200....has optional (inexpensive) remote, higher output voltage, and is also essentially a USB DAC
and they go from there.....The Linkwitz LX-mini uses the above DSPs as some options all the way up to the MiniDSP 4x10 unit.

I am using 2nd hand HT receivers, the older ones usually have 5.1 or 7.1 analog inputs. These are cheap, offer a main volume control and most of the times a level setting per channel, which can be used for adjusting the sensitivity of the different drivers in your speaker.
I got a Denon 3801 and a Arcam AVR300. The Arcam does have better audio indeed, but it was something as 250USD, while I got the Denon for 50 USD.
for the DSP, besides MiniDSP there is also this unit from Dayton audio. It is basically two of the 2x4 MiniDSP in one box.
