Thanx, I got it in the mail yesterday. It is a good looking lens. Problem is I went an ordered another lens from sciplus.com. Mebbe I can return it or sell it to a buffy of mine that wants to start a project.

Hey 11steve11,
How long did it take for your order to sciplus.com to arrive? I haven't received a shipped email, or tracking number or anything yet.

can anyone comment on the sciplus projections lens yet?
These are pretty good lenses. They make them. But the focal length was a little long on the 9" lens for a 7" Lilliput project. Since I already had on order a 200mm FL (front and back) dual fresnel, I could forsee some focusing issues.
Reason being is the 9" works out to be about 229mm and the 7.8" works out to be about 198mm so in my case I would rather have the 7.8" because it gives me a bit more precision in setup. And as I understand it, the more precise the setup, the better your picture will be.
So I sent the 9" back and requested the 7.8" lens. I haven't gotten it yet so I can't comment on them yet.

sorry for the late reply,
pat at sciplus has been a HUGE help for me with tracking numbers and support, and yes it does take as much as a week to process and get it shipped.

when I tested it along side a 240mm fuji, the focal lengths were very close. the fuji let a little more light through, but quality wise it was no more than 10% different and I really had to look for it on the test screen. sciplus has 3 different lenses they send for the 9"FL. the small size one had the same quality as the fuji but is smaller. the smooth bore one is bigger than the small one one and lets a tiny bit more light through but the quality is off 5%-10%
I never tested the 3rd.
hope this helps
i_eat_flowers may have additional comments on these...i'm sure he's done a lot more testing.

Are you refering to the fuji or the other one?
Which one did you like best?
its this one:
its the 9" one (228mm)
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Travis,
What's that contraption next to your 9" lens? You gonna use that for a sorta zooming arrangement?
BTW, does it matter which way these sciplus lenses are aimed?

well its actually a pipe for water (one part cut out so that it fits with the lens) and a "pipeholder" X_x'' 😎
Re: I have the Xerox lens
BeauP,
Is there a way to remove that iris you think? Or, no?

Steamer said:Another batch of superb copy lenses, made by Georz Optical Company for Xerox. Goerz Optical of Inwood, NY was known for superior optics. Coated multi-element lens assembly with iris in the center. Front lens diameter is 47mm, rear lens diameter of 40mm. Black-enameled aluminum barrel length of 80mm x 64mm diameter, 14-leaf adjustable iris from one notch above f/9 to one notch smaller than f/22, multi-element, with beautiful purpled coated optics. Focal length is 250mm, measured from the center of the assembly. This too will make a nice “Copy Scope” and the iris will allow you to cut down the light from the moon or other bright object. Unused stock. Supplies are limited.
Found this lens and thought it might work. What you guys think?

BeauP said:I have that lens. It's nice, the iris is useless for projection, but if you open it all the way up the lens works well... the projection was very crisp and nice.
