It was being thrown out. In great shape, works good. Is it worth putting any time and a new cartridge into? Looks nicer then most BSR units, is this the factory tonearm?

My experience with BSR is that they're mostly junk. There seems to be some link between them and Garrard, as I had both a BSR and a Garrard SP25Mkiii that seem to have been made from a similar parts bin. But, whereas the BSR had a light platter, the Garrard's platter is cast.
I don't know your turntable, but it seems like quite a decent effort. The arm alone looks interesting. I believe that the traditional weaknesses of the BSR's were poor arms and high mechanical noise levels.
I'd say try a cart on that one, and let's see how it turns out.
Have a look on this link to the Vinyl Engine site - it looks like your turntable is a P204, they look similar even though the site has a diagram rather than a picture. Register and you can download the manual.
