Found a ancient coin.

I found this old coin on the beach in Goderich Ontario a few years ago, can anyone identify this coin?
Size is about a inch and a half in diameter.

Take it to a coin dealer. Now if that were an old speaker, well, we could identify it in a flash. 🙂

It looks quite clean. I hope you did not clean it, that will reduce it's value to collectors significantly if it is a rare coin. It looks like it is a 'struck' coin. That could mean it is very old.

Is it gold?? Looks gold.

You may have found part of a cache. And left without the cache! ha ha!

First picture looks definately Spanish (cross/lion/castle) maybe an old silver reale. Google has lots of pictures, but don't be surprised if condition/rarity only add up to $50 or so.

It's not outside the realm of possiblities, but it seems a little odd to me that an Old World Spanish coin would be found in Ontario. I'd definitely guard it until I consulted a good numismatist.

I'd guess French as I see a couple of fleur de lis-like symbols on the 2nd pic lower right.

It's got to be worth going back to the same spot on the beach with a metal detector for another look around. Nice find whatever the value!
Do you know how the law applies to "found" valuable artefacts in Canada? This would be worth knowing.
A friend of mine found an almost perfect flint arrowhead whilst digging on her garden allotment recently; only the very tip of the point was missing.
