My opinion also. Very smooth, and you can listen for years
without getting irritated. Some of the other full range (higher
efficiency) products are more peaky in this regard.
i thought that the FX120 and F120 amongst others were just as good if not better in the HF as the JX92. The JX92 seems to be better in the LF as per the specs.hence i was looking at Fosex's FX120 for applications where the LF and power handling of the JX92 were not required.
Mr. Pass or other knowlegeable persons,
As per the reccomendation of Mr. Pass, I will be driving to Madisound this afternoon and picking up a pair of Fostex FE166E or 206E's. Granted, it's a 1 1/2 hour drive, I need a new project. What will I be putting these in? I would appreciate any assistance in locating an enclosure plan. I will be using these with my new Gainclone amp and possibly a future project. I can tackle any wood working project you throw at me. I do have to satisfy my wife who believes in aesthetics. I can get away with a BHorn style cabinet at most (standard floorstander). I like the sound of the Moth Audio ciccada's (the best full range I've heard) and I think anything with this sonic signature or better, will be well worth my effort. I like to feel the low end. I like to listen to music at a medium to medium-loud level. I will be listening to these in my living room (16' x 18') Any suggestions?
P.S.
These must be musical AND accurate!

Zobsky, could you elaborate a little more about your experiences with the sound of the Fostex? I'm curious to know what you feel its an acquired taste...would love to hear your story!
Mr Pass, please post your opinions of the FE108E here as well once you've given those speakers some good listening time.
If anyone else here has had any experiences with the FE108E Sigma, i'd love to hear them!
Regards

well, i'll try, .. experience limited mostly to the fe166E driver (my preference) and ff165K driver.
.. the fostex sound is a very dynamic sound, with a clear and articulate midrange., .. sounding very "live". unfortunately, some of the drivers have peaks in their response, which lend a bit of edge or shout to the sound. the smaller drivers also may not be able to handle heavy music very well. many of the fostex do exceedingly well on well recorded acoustic music , ... some records sound just terrible though on them, .. probably a combination of recording, peaky response and the limitations of a single driver.
people who consider magneplanars (for instance) to represent good sound with their superb transparency (but often limited dynamics (esp. the smaller models) blah blah may not like the fostex sound, but i do, .. i feel the sound is closer to what live music sounds like, and not an attempt to score brownie points in soundstaging, transparancy, frequency response etc .. like so many products out there.
hope that helped
If you read Mr.Pass article about current source amps and speakers to go with them you should have seen Terry Cains voigt pipes with the FE166E.As per the reccomendation of Mr. Pass, I will be driving to Madisound this afternoon and picking up a pair of Fostex FE166E or 206E's.
A highly regarded enclosure.
Only problem will be to find a proper plan. (no wonder? as it is a commercial product)
I´ve only found a real bad drawing where you can´t read the numbers.
Alternatively you can of course simulate your own voigt with Martin´s software: http://www.quarter-wave.com/

The 8" Fostex can play loud and achieve decent bass response. The Fostex recommended BLH is very nice and has gotten good comments from those that have built it, however, if you want more bass response go with a TL.

Thanks for the responses. I made it down to Madisound today which actually took 3 hours each way. You should see the set-up in that place. I picked up the FE206E's. I plan on using them in Mr. Kings MLTL unless somebody wants to convince me otherwise.
