Have been lurking for quite a while after discovering this great world of DIY. Hope I commit no forum taboo; please let me know (kindly) if I do.
Am interested in a first time simple design for full range driver. From the posts a Voigt pipe with a fostex driver (FE167 or 206E) seems a good way to go. Have a couple basic questions.
1. I don't have a tube amp--have a 110W/channel solid state home theater receiver. The fostex are efficient. Is this too much wattage? What is a good reference on tube amps?
2. What is the most straight forward plan to follow for building a voigt that you"ve seen a link for? What happens if you substitute a different fostex driver--what parameters do you check?
3. Have seen baffle circuit schematics but what reference do you recommend to see the actual construction (I'm telling you I'm a novice and may need a good starter book on electronics!).
Any help is, of course, greatly appreciated. Look forward to lurking, learning and eventually contributing if I'm lucky.

Full range drivers work great with SS amps with some power. The power provides a significant amount of flexibility in the BSC filter design. I have been using a 200 W SS amp for years and never had a problem. Right now I am driving my Lowther ML TL design with a TEAC A-L700P chip amp ($95 on Amazon). A tube amp is definitely not a requirement for a high performance full range driver system.

There are two designs on my site for the Fostex drivers. The ML TQWT, project #2, will use the FE-167E driver without modification to the enclosure or the filter. The ML TL design shown in project #5 uses the FE-206E or FE-207E. If you go to my gallery you can see pictures of these designs that other people have made. The builders can be e-mailed directly to ask questions and gather opinions. Bob Brines also offers an excellent design for the FE-167E, his site is linked from mine.

If you look at my Projects #4 and #5 you will find pictures of typical BSC circuits. In my "General Speaker Related Articles" link there are a couple of documents describing some of the BSC options and methods for sizing. The variable BSC is a great way of adjusting on the fly and getting the most out of the circuit.
