And iPhone. Mine shoots in HEIF and although the phone and my Mac have no trouble with the format, nothing on my Windows computer will read it.
I have to open them on the Mac and then export to Jpeg. Not a big deal, as I almost always crop, resize, tweak and use more compression anyway. Rarely do I post unedited photos.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/heif-image-extensions/9pmmsr1cgpwg official and free. No idea why it isn’t included with Windows in this day and age.
Unfortunately they want a couple bucks for the HEVC extension to handle videos, but at least it’s a one and done deal for all your machines.
Browser support for HEIF and HEIC is nearly nil. To "enable" this on the forum we would have to allow people to upload the HEIF image but then we would have to convert it to jpg or png to display it to 99% of users - effectively all of them. We would not "know" if a user had a plugin to display HEIF so we would have to assume they have not 100% of the time. There's no advantage as the users would all be getting jpg anyway. So in effect all we would be providing is a service to convert HEIF to other formats - and the forum would have to pay given the volume to no advantage to anyone.
