i sold a forte 1a to a friend of mine a while back and just had it serviced for a bias ajustment and pots cleaned. it was running dead cold. when i bought it around 1993 used(not new ) it ran what what i would call hot or very very very warm after running for a couple of hours or so. it is now running what i would just warm. is the ajustment 100mv too cold to run in pure class a . where is the ideal adjustment? 120mv. will it have more power and be more articulate if its running hotter? where would be the factory adjustment when new? can it reduce the life of the parts if running hot or at factory specs? how high can it be adjusted to safely? 170mv ?. at what point does it does stop running in pure class a.? i would like to ask the people who serviced it ,where they set it at. should they be offended? should i have a choice in the matter? and , are any of these stupid questions ?

You want a temperature where you can just about hold your hand on the
top of the sink for 10 seconds.

The ol' 10-seconds-hand-hold metric!

Funny thing- about 20 years ago, I had a problem w/ my 1a. I called Forte and talked to someone there who gave me the same advice wrt/ running temperature.

I was a (newly poor) grad student at the time and whoever I talked to gave me the exactly correct diagnosis / replacement part simply via my description over the phone. I was able to fix it for $5, didn't have to send it to anyone, was able to afford an extra helping of Smack Ramen that week!

I never had a chance to properly thank y'all for helping me out - so, thanks Prof. Pass.
