Ford Focus handsfree headliner microphone question

Hello:

Anyone know whether the built-in headliner microphone in cars (ok, specifically 2016 Ford Focus) are actually electret mics?

I want to try replacing it with a cardioid lavalier mic.

The Ford Sync schematic (reference 151-30) shows 2 conductors (Mic+ and Mic-). The Mic- is connected to shield and ground.

I haven't unplugged the existing mic yet. If I find DC present, that would confirm yes. I'd be surprised if they used a dynamic mic.

But I thought I'd ask. That doesn't seem to be discussed on car forums.

I picked up a cardioid lavalier mic that's wired with a TA4F plug like Shure systems that provide +5V bias.

If there is no bias on the headliner cable, there is at the electronics module but that's awkwardly distant (maybe under the seat?).

Thanks
