I'm selling my Overhead/MH setup. 3m 9100 with some heat damage, 400w metal halide and enclosure. $150 Shipped. This setup will work, it just needs some tweaking and an LCD. I'm moving and need to get rid of some stuff, so you luck out! Understand that this is a very DIY project and will need some work before it is up to speed but, you can't beat the price on the parts.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I will be sure to do that ND, This system is not really quite what I had in mind for my first DIY design , but I am pretty new to the whole DIY VPJ thing so Wally's setup is probably going to prove to be better than my first drawings look like they would be.

In anycase you cant beat the price of the individual parts for 100 bucks I should be off to the movies in no time.

My experience with my 3M OHP was less than stunning (way too dim) but with 8 times the power I should be right in there.

CB.

Aw man...

I would have bought that!!! Anyways I will probably buy a new one off that page but about the wiring, does the ballast comes with the socket and everything (except for the bulb)?

No, you'll need to get a socket, but they're like $3, the wiring is pretty straight forward, I even wired a switch and the fan from the overhead in with mine.

WOW,

You have a 400 watt bulb that is 11 1/2" long? On the site, there is anouther bulb but its half the size. I think I am going to try that bulb with the ballast.

I will be making my own enclosure or buying one and using a nec 1545v panel.

Wally,

Does the ballast come with any features like surge protection, overheating protection, and does it make a humming noise?

Also for powering up fans, did you use 110v fans or did you use computer fans. If you used computer fans, dont you have to use resistors and stuff to lower the voltage?
