Smell of Jackfruit and Durian, former is fruity, latter is doody.It is distinctive, and not repulsive, but can be described as an acquired taste...
So maybe it fits the topic, though Balut and Durian would be more suited.
We have a growing Jamaican community in southwest Vermont, jackfruit showed up about four years ago, various other tropical produce

Linda cannot wrap her head around pickled herring, I love it in dill or wine clear pickle, but I have never liked the sour cream version.
Gefilte fish in a jar is rather polarizing, but make it fresh, it's fish gnocchi, or deep fry, it's a fish cake.
Kind of like how canned wax or green beans are nothing like fresh or frozen(treated gently), but wierdly good as a separate substance.

All I can think of at the moment is a delicious Mett bun made from freshly chopped raw pork with onions salt and pepper.

A friend and I had a conversation and it was mentioned. A few days later I came home from work and there was a quart mason jar nestled in the grass by my door, I picked it up and opened it as my roommate (a vegetarian) asked "what's that?
I swig down about 1/3 of the thick sauce, and reply.

Are you sure? I remember a visiting professor from Italy who ate at McD almost everyday during the semester he was teaching at the college in the US. He did tell us that Big Mac was the go-to order.There actually is a food item widely eaten in the U.S. that others would not touch with the proverbial ten foot pole. It is called a “Big Mac!”

Might be fake by some interested group.
But factory prepared in hygienic surroundings.

Pickled prawns, and tuna fish are an accompaniment to some South Indian cooking, there is even a mild, slightly sweet tuna pickle...
There is even a dried prawn preserve, quite strong smelling!
