Hello,
After doing a lot of searching for some Focal DIY plans, I found several Focal kits that are listed on several European websites. I found pictures, but no plans of any kind. I would really like to get the plans for these as they appear to be nice designs. Here are the ones I am talking about in particular:
Focal Grandeur
Focal Dappo
Focal Triga
Focal Phonix
Does anybody here have any idea how to get the plans for any of these speakers? Or better yet, does anybody here already have the plans to any of these? I did a search here and it turned up nothing. Any information would be fantastic. I am the most interested in the Focal Grandeur. Thanks for you help!!

The plans aren't listed because they were published in various German DIY magazins. The Focal Grandeur for example is from the 4th issue 2002 of K+T contact info hopefully they understand English. Or you can contact the firm that is selling the kit
Edit: the triga and phoenix are from HobbyHifi another German diy-magazin

Hi LowHZ,
LaMa is right, the plans where published in german magazines.
I have the issues with the plans of the Grandeur and the Dappo. If you can wait some days, I try to scan the plans.
Should I ?

The Dutch importer Clofis also mentions the Grandeur on their site
http://www.clofis.nl/nl/zelfbouw/zelfbouw_focal.htm
Of course you cant read that, but they say that you can contact them for details of the design:
email jamshid@clofis.nl
use topic description: Stuur mij meer info over de Grandeur

LaMa,
Thanks you very much for the info. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. 🙂
TKsys,
Yes please!! I would LOVE it if you could scan the plans for me!! If it is easier for you, you could just send the plans to my email address instead of having to post them here. I will try to contact you directly either way. Thanks for the help!!
Duck-Twacy,
Thank you also very much for the info. I actually took a year of Dutch in college. However, it has almost all left my head at this point. Maybe it is time to break out my books and refresh my memory. 🙂
I would really love to get a subscription to Klang + Ton and I am going to try to do that. I will also try to get one for HobbyHifi. Thanks for your help!

Duck-Twacy,
Thank you for being so helpful. It is probably a lot easier for you to get the info than me, so I really appreciate you going out of your way to do so. Like I said in my above message, you can email me the info if it is easier to do than posting here. Thanks again for your help. 🙂

Hi LowHz,
how large can the email be? The scans are 1.5Mb to 2.3Mb
per page, six pages in total.
Cheers

TKsys,
My posted email address probably will not hold the photos. However, you can send them to this email address that I don't normally use, which has a much higher storage level:
ckbass@comcast.net
I can hold 10 MB at this address. I don't know what my maximum attachment size per email can be, so maybe you could send each page in a different email. I can't thank you enough for being so helpful, and I look forward to checking out the designs. I will let you know if it comes through OK.

Just received the copys of the T+K article on the Grandeur (6 pages) and of the Triga article from Hobby Hifi (5 pages) from Clofis.
Unfortunately I don't have a scanner here (and will not be at the office for some weeks). I could try to make a few pictures using a 3 MB digicam, but I doubt you will be able to read it.
Do you still need the Grandeur design?

Duck-Twacy,
Thanks. The only speakers that I did not receive plans for were the Phonix and the Triga. I no longer need the Grandeur. I don't necessarily need every bit of information about the drivers including measurements and such. I would just like the crossover and the enclosure information. Hopefully that will make it easier for you. Anything extra is gravy. 🙂
I really love Focal Utopia drivers so these designs really interested me. Thanks again for your help. 🙂

Hello,
I have both magazins. Although I never heard either of these speakers, I want to ad a few thoughts I had reading these. But fist of all: I am a friend of large speakers with lots of Sd because they deliver the punch I need listenning to hard rock and can play as loud as needed - sometimes 😀
The mids of the Grandeuer have a XO frequency of 130Hz. Why? Why not go up to 300Hz oder 400Hz. The mids will be the limitting factor regarding max output level. The woofers could go much higher without any problems. The punch in the fundamental tones need as much Sd as possible. This is nothing more than a sub-sat-system with a passive XO. This could shurely be better done with an sub module.
The tigra. My first thought was: where is the second woofer? A 6" mid and a 10" woofer? I think tweeter and mid can go much louder than the the single 10".

I will take some pics of the Triga paper and put them on my "site" (just a bunch of pics).
Unfortunately I just noticed that its not the first article but some "follow up". There is no parts list or x-over schematic 😡 I guess its part of a serie of articles (my German isnt very good).
I could ask Clofis if they have the others too (although I'm afreight they will expect me to buy a pair...)

Duck-Twacy,
Thanks for the zip file. Your pictures include a great picture of the cabinet plans (thanks!) but like you said, they don't have any crossover information. I find it really interesting that the Raven tweeter is an option in this design. I was unaware of this until I saw your pictures. I personally prefer the Focal, but that is still a cool option to also have available. The cabinet plan is basic, but it is also kind of slick. Three stackable enclosures, and the unused tweeter cavity houses the crossover. I like it.
Did you happen to find any information on the Phonix? (or does anyone else have any info?) I haven't heard from anybody on that one. That is the one I am probably most interested in building and would probably build first. It is the cheapest and most simple design of the four I was looking for. Any info from anybody would be great.
I have noticed during my quest for these designs that there are some European web-sites just FULL of DIY speaker designs. There are designs here in the states, but there are a heck of a lot less of them. I tried to keep my inquiry to just a few kits, as there were a LOT of them that looked really promising. I just stuck with the Focal Utopia kits. Thanks again to everyone who helped or is helping me out.
I do have one more speaker kit that I am curious if anybody knows about: the Vifa Picolino. I can start another thread if nobody knows, but it looks like a nice, simple kit that would be fun to build. If anybody can point me to info on this as well, that would be awesome. Either way, thanks for all of the help. 🙂

I see a Focal Phönix at this Geman eshop
(actually its http://www.speaker-online.de/ )
Another Hobby hifi design
That Vifa looks quite cute
If you like back loaded horns (??) with a single unit, you might take a look at the Tony Gee design "Solo" (bit larger though)
Or any other designs on his site
Btw you may also like this Spanish site (lots of old designs)
http://usuarios.lycos.es/altavoces/focal.html
I will ask Clofis if they have the xover design of the Triga.
(actually its http://www.speaker-online.de/ )
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Yes, the sites that you posted the links to the Phonix and the Picolino are actually where I first discovered them. I can see a list of crossover parts, but there is no enclosure information and no schematics for the crossover parts. I have tried several times to get information on these but I always came up empty handed. I have seen more than one place that offers these speakers but I can't seem to get any information about them. It doesn't help that I can't read their websites and that I can't send them an email that would make any sense. 🙂 Again, you have already been incredibly helpful, but any more information would be wonderful. Thanks, and I hope that you find out some more information...

P.S. I have been to Tony Gee's site many times. Great speakers...
