Focal Aria cross over upgrade and listening experience

Was it worth it? Oh yeah! Loved the 906‘s 99% of the time. Female vocals like out Adele could be too sharp.

Is there anyone else who has tackled an Aria crossover upgrade?

My impression listening side by side with one speaker upgraded is that vocals are presented differently;
- There is additional texture, layering and separation
- Rather than voices sounding 6 inches in front of the speaker, there is now depth around the speaker
- Adele‘s loud passages are still powerful but not quite as sharp or shouty
- increase in dynamic range and extended high frequency. Initially noticed with background vocals on Louis Armstrong Saints, which was my first test track

If you have taken a similar journey, please share your experience. Here are before and after photos …

Hi greenapul, I am looking to do the same with my 906's. I have never done anything like this. Would you mind telling me how you went about this and what caps and values you used. Did you do anything else? NoRez etc? I appreciate your assistance.

Hi! Have anyone tested this upgrade?

It is a quite long thread, have anyone made a redesign of the crossover or just changing parts to higher quality? I can buy the Focal Aria 906 used on a good deal and thinking about upgrading it. 🙂

I‘ve experimented by tweaking the capacitor and resistor value. I settled on just changing the resistor in series with the tweeter. Went from stock 4.7 to 4.3 ohms. With the upgraded crossover components there is no point continuing to downplay the tweeter volume.

usually difficult to change large bipolar capacitors for foil type.

In amps they use special electrolytics where foils are too big to use forgot their name. Did anyone try them in loudspeakers?

Its some electrolytics with foil type substances in it.

Was it called Silmic?
