Do you have to use a portable radio?Thanks, I'm looking for portable (belt type), Tivoli seems to be desktop-cabinet type!
Well, because there are many small table radios like the Tivoli* that:Yep, why?
* will fit easily on small desks
* include very sensitive tuners
* include decent built-in antennas (my Tivoli uses a 10 foot[!] power cord that AFAIK it uses as its internal antenna)
* include a connector for an external antenna for areas with troublesome radio reception
* include headphone jacks - IMO these can easily power most headphones even larger over-the-ear types, better than the usually very low-powered amplifiers most portables are equipped with
* I own a Model One, cherry veneer with blue face 🙂
If you are near EMI-producing equipment, or in a part of the building where you are surrounded by grounded metal, you can forget AM-FM reception. Sorry.
With a simple split shield loop made from PS2 cable I easily received clean, wide band AM in a shielded metal building at the bottom of a hill on the opposite side from the transmitter, with the tuner in an inside room next to another full of servers. FM worked fine too, so sorry, that's incorrect.
