Are you using one of the cheap d-amp boards available on line? There was an awful lot of static so putting in the 1K reduced most of the static. I do have a bit of logic to things, I don't just randomly try things.
Don't be a slammin' those "D" boys now!..........

I have purchased a number of Chinese d-amps and they all produce rf interference, probably due to the length of speaker cables I need.
Guys making boom boxes with speakers as far apart as your ears, have no trouble.
I'm now using a chip amp, no problems.

No I'm using a Teac AG-750 receiver.
This site has good instructions and photos on how to build your own FM antenna.
How to Build a better FM Antenna
I made up a few for some older Marantz receivers and they work great, pinning the meters at 100%.
I designed them for 100Mhz, as that is close to my favorite local station.
I was fortunate to have some nos twin lead antenna wire lying around, so they didn't cost me anything.

That is a crude folded dipole, accompanied by some misunderstandings! Ignore what he says about 5/8 being a magic length.

Sounds like the radio is bad to me. I get decent reception with just any old wire. A decent dipole is excellent. How much faith do you have in the receiver?

I know the amplifier and input switching functions of the amp are rock solid but the tuner may be bad.
