FM\AM radio Tutorials request

I can recommend "The Theory and Servicing of AM, FM and FM Stereo Receivers" by Clarence Green and Robert Bourque.

In terms of gear, you'll need a radio frequency signal generator. There is a somewhat baffling array of choices. I like the Sencore SG 80 but it's pricey. The Sencore SG165 is less expensive and a good way to start. I would recommend buying a unit that is known to be working and calibrated. I learned the hard way that you can get very confused trying to decide if the error is the receiver or the test gear that is giving bad readings. Larry at Choice Electronics is a good source of reliable Sencore gear. There are certainly other options.

I also recommend starting with a relatively simple and inexpensive tuner. Simple is easier to work on and cheap means less risk if you screw it up. There are a bunch of these on eBay. I'd start with analogue.

If you contact me, I should be able to send you a scan of the SG80 manual which also gives decent general procedures for the various steps in alignment.

Good luck. It's a journey.
