There is an irony here. If the scheme really results in a more acceptable sound near/at clipping, the place where that would be beneficial would be in lower powered (such as 50W) amps rather than in the 200+W arena.
Decades ago I had one of the early NADs, ~30W. Soft clipping made some sense there as clipping was pretty common. Actually it made a lot of sense consideringhow I abused it. Nowadays my main amps are 200W/ch and given my room size and listening habits, clipping is not a significant concern. A triumph of brute force of cleverness.
