Hello
I have actually built a DIY projector, been using it for at least a year now. Setup is:
-400W metal halide with ballast supply
-laminated glass sheet to protect LCD from UV
-1024x768 15" LCD from Benq
-2 plastic fresnels, one each side of the LCD
-triplet lens
-huge MDF box (big enough for a 19" LCD if I chose to upgrade!)
I tried pivoting the front fresnel for keystone correction, but am now using fixed parallel fresnels, and I tilt the viewing screen with a stick until it is parallel with the projector. Surprisingly, this works much better than it should, i.e. there is no impression of keystone.
Might not be the last word but it sure is fun watching movies with the kids.
My biggest gripe is lack of edge-to-edge focus. I don't think it is the lens. I suspect the fresnels are warping. They are supported around 3 edges, free at the top. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I am not sure adding 4 sheets of glass in the light path is desirable (pressing each fresnel between a pair of glass sheets). Do you agree? Any suggestions? Any actual experience?

my though on pressing each fresnel, i think it would be a good idea.... personally i am yet to build mine(sourcing parts right now) but if you get decent glass there should be no reason that it will mess up the light path, glass is clear, and without filters of any sort i *think* that you should get a good image....
MY only though of any effect to it is light reflection, what i mean is, is the light going to be bounced off of the glass resulting in a not as bright picture.... thoughts?
