For as long as maps have been drawn there has been the problem of how to represent bodies of land that exist on a curved surface on a flat surface. There have been different "projections" used by cartographers but the most widely used one which we have all become used to is Mercator Projection. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection
Like all projections, it distorts the relative sizes of the major land masses.

At least, if you do a Mercator from the position where you live, the area around you is OK. Like your mom said, stay around the house and you're fine 🙂
Yes indeed. All flat projections of a globular world distort the shapes and distances. We should be used to that by now.
What I find surprising is how many so called Flat Earth maps mimic these distortions. It's difficult to find one without the distortions. Before I got kicked out of the F.E.S. I had found a nice, recent flat map with the land masses in the familiar shapes. Can't find it on the web now, so will have to look on some old hard drives.

It´s today fashion to hide behind internet, and flex muscles..
Yes, it suits many to forget that the hard shell of technology conceals the soft machine
To engineer a flat world is very difficult engineering. All the forces around it say no way. If we take glass from the furness we get a fair idea of the origine point. However Flat Earth people are saying I don't like you and I even more dislike your ideas, go away. They can say Flat Earth as at a human on foot scale it mostly is true if we consider hills to be bumps.
Often I see very complicated engineering to solve very simple problems for no good reason. My feeling is that consumer engineering is not dictated by a simple evaluation of design outcomes from data gathered. Electric cars may for a short time stop the rot as to get milage is the goal. Hi fi got to a peak of perfection in 1947 in goals defined. In 1957 a loudspeaker with amplifier levels of distortion joined the team. Then price became reasonable. After that we seem to have lost our way. Keep it simple and make it good just like what we see in the heavens. By whatever way it came about the celestial machine is a masterpiece of engineering.

Where is the center of gravity of the flat Earth? I suppose it is at the axis of the disc (several miles below if the flat Earth has any thickness). Objects fall towards the center of gravity, that is vertical at the center of the disc, but ??? around the perimeter. People would walk slanted, buildings like the leaning tower of Pisa would be common.

And tides and current of the oceans?
It is quite something, to come up with plausible explanations for *everything*, without contradictions.

Anyone know a travel agent that will book a tour of the edge waterfall? Should be impressive...

Maybe flat earth is flat on top but ticker on the edges 😕😕😕.

Is the Ozone Hole a hole in the dome?
Yeah! and the meteorites come down through the same hole.
One simple principle places the Flat Earth "theorem" in the untenable category...Occam's razor. The ocean of interlocking conspiracies, contrived complexities and internally inconsistent idiosyncrasies needed to keep the Flat Earth concept afloat collapses of its own improbability.
The flat earthers I talk to don't believe in gravity, they believe in "density".
As to the reason for the conspiracy, they say that there are infinite amounts of resources beyond the ice wall and that they don't want anyone to know so they can keep us enslaved.
Sorry I fell off the radar for a bit. I can't believe this thread is still going!!

Then why don't they keep the alien hybrid research station there as well? It would be the ideal place, and since they don't I find it hard to believe
Actually, the idea that we're an incredibly sophisticated simulation makes more sense than a 'flat earth' and most other conspiracy theories. As long as 'they' don't turn the thing off before I die of natural causes, I can live with that.
I prefer they switch it off before I die of natural causes.
Switching off would happen in an instant without warning, death of natural causes usually involves physical decline over years, suffering and pain.
